Congregational chanting of Krishna’s holy name is the king of sadhana
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati states:
“Chanting is the best form of Krishna seva. If other sadhanas help us develop in our chanting, then they deserve to be called sadhana. Otherwise they are simply impediments on the path of chanting. Congregational chanting of Krishna holy name is the king of sadhana. It is the only infallible sadhana capable of bringing us to perfection. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu did not teach Deity worship in His siksatakam: He simply taught us to chant.”

Harinama gets everyone involved. You can really let off steam. It’s association with devotees in a favourable way. Harinama has the ability to fully absorb us. It’s real fun. It’s healthy. It helps us to lose all inhibitions. It’s interactive. We can practically develop tolerance, humility and all good qualities. You meet so many different people. It satisfies the need of loving exchanges and our desire for relationships. It brings peace to the consciousness. On top of that it makes us and the people around so happy and what’s better than that. We all get off the mental platform and become positive. Most of all it pleases the Lord.
Why are we not going out onto the streets and giving the people the association of the holy names? They are eager for it – they love it but they are not getting enough contact with us. Why are we just sitting in our homes and temples and singing to ourselves. This is a preaching movement – preaching means giving to others.
